quiet rings you
like Saturn, like chimes
in the wind’s pause

your cold hand is pebbled as sand
after the wave

Marquez is dead
in the same way of all words
spoken, fallen, lingering
like the scent of almonds

you waited for these hundred years

    1. Claudia, please do. It will be worth your time to dive in and read as much of his work as you can. Start with the short stories if you don’t have time for a novel.

      That line is a reference to the first line of his novel, Love in the Time of Cholera:

      “It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love.” ~ M
